Installation for "The Unbearable Lightness of Being"

For this project, we were asked to make a work based on a literature piece. I chose The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera and made an installation responding to it.

Kundera questions the meaning and weight of life in the book. People can only live once thus do not have a chance to compare or regret, so life is full of uncertaincy and lightness. Working against this concept, I made hundreds of reproductions of a random screenshot from instagram, trying to make this unimportant moment "monumental". And I played a little trick. I put one hand drawn reproduction among those printed reproductions, making a meaningless difference, which reponds to those heavy characters in the book who made useless effort to add weight to heir lives.
